MENTAL SKILLS COACH

Helping athletes strengthen their Inner game

I'm a semi-retired professional rugby player with over 15 years in the game - including over 50 Super Rugby games in New Zealand and 3 years abroad in Japan. Toward the back end of my career, I realised how much the mental side of sport affects performance, wellbeing, and enjoyment - something I wish I had learned earlier! Now, I’m combining my lived experience, formal psychology study, and background in business, personal training, and breathwork coaching to provide a well-rounded perspective and help athletes build strong mental skills from the start.

Whether it's confidence, focus, bouncing back from injury, or dealing with pressure, I’m here to support athletes in unlocking their mindset and thriving on and off the field

  • Inside Running Rugby Academy

"Kayne leads very enjoyable mental seminars for our domestic & international athletes we have here at Inside Running Academy. He is incredibly relatable with our athletes, speaks directly, and creates a very respectful, comfortable atmosphere. Kayne is able to gain a genuine connection with our athletes with the use of great examples that keep them engaged along with incredible tips and ideas which helps strengthen their mental fortitude"

  • Tauranga City Council

“Kayne joined us as part of the national Play Week initiative, delivering 2 workshops focusing on positive mindset and wellbeing for young athletes aged 8-10 and 11-14 and their families. From the outset, he was generous with his time and genuinely collaborative, working closely with us to shape the session content so it aligned perfectly with Play Week’s goals. Kayne brought a great mix of energy, authenticity, and insight, exploring key themes such as staying calm under pressure, embracing mistakes as part of growth, and distinguishing between what we can and can’t control, all illustrated by personal experiences and psychological studies.  The takeaways for parents around their part to play in a child’s sporting experience were also delivered in an open and non-judgmental way. We’re especially grateful for the way Kayne connected with both children and parents, using relatable, real-life examples to make the content memorable. Feedback showed his workshop sparked ongoing conversations at home around growth mindset, handling pressure, and keeping sport fun, and that participants were able to use the concepts explored in real life settings, exactly the kind of ripple effect we hoped for.”

  • IBA Facilitator

“Kayne delivered an outstanding session and was exceptionally well prepared. He brought great energy to the room and related naturally and authentically with the young people. Through the use of real-life experiences and honest storytelling, Kayne kept the group highly engaged and made his message both relatable and impactful.

His ability to connect personal challenges to meaningful lessons resonated strongly with the youth and added significant value to our programme. Feedback from participants was very positive, and we would highly recommend Kayne for future speaking or mentoring engagements.”
